Greetings? Are you threatening me!.....

Dannevirke is approximately 50 minutes from where I live. It is also where I work as a Midwife in the local community hospital.
In 1870, New Zealand decided to promote immigration from Norway & Denmark (as these folk were considered to be hard workers) and situated them in the district of Tararua; with the sole purpose of providing totara sleepers for the Wellington to Napier train line. These settlers received land in return for their hard work and for those clever enough to convince their wives to settle in the remote and densely forested area. Dannevirke was born - also known as 'Sleeper Town' - I say 'Sleepy Town'.
An alarming looking Viking greets you into Dannevirke (affectionately known as Dannevegas by most NZ folk) and if you are keen you can pass on the Viking love via postcards, silver pins or even T-shirts.
My brother has always been a pirate lover but recently I sent both these Dannevegas postcards to him and I have a strong feeling he's now going to be a born-again Viking.

"ROARRRRR! COME TO DANNEVIRKE OR I'LL CUT YOU'RE BLOODY ARMS OFF!!!"
